What started as an online-only Etsy shop in a room over their garage, owners Robin Thomas and Cathy Kelly expanded their business to an impressive 5,000 square foot brick and mortar quilt shop in Ridgeland, Mississippi! The Cotton Blossom Fabric Shoppe offers everything from 3,000 bolts of modern, colorful fabrics, to notions and machines — and they even have a new virtual and in-person embroidery club, a new serger club and a new quilting club for their customers.

SF: What’s the history of The Cotton Blossom Fabric Shoppe?

CBFS: We started as an Etsy shop and expanded to selling online from our own website. We then decided to move "into town" and opened a brick and mortar shop. Now, ten years later, we occupy over 5,000 square feet with 3,000 bolts of fabric and machine sales and classes.

SF: Tell us one thing people might not know about your shop.

CBFS: We started our business on our farm in a room over the garage!

SF: What’s your shop’s motto or tagline?

CBFS: Where beautiful things come together, one stitch at a time!

SF: Describe your shop’s aesthetic in five words or less.

CBFS: Modern, colorful, fabrics.

SF: What’s unique about your shop?

CBFS: We emphasize customer service and growing a community of sewists.

SF: What is your best-selling Shannon Fabrics product?

CBFS: Embossed Cuddle®

SF: Do you sell online? If so, how long have you been selling online and what have you learned?

CBFS: We started as an online business and continue with a full website, selling fabric, notions and machines!

SF: What top projects are on the must-make list right now in your shop?

CBFS: We recommend quilt-as-you-go projects, a door dangler embroidery club and a serger table runner.

SF: What do you love most about creating (or seeing customers create) DIY projects with the fabrics you sell?

CBFS: We have a large community of quilters who make a variety of beautiful quilts.

SF: What current quilting, sewing or crafting trends inspires you? Where do you get your inspiration?

CBFS: We are always inspired by new fabric lines and patterns!

SF: What’s next for your shop?

CBFS: We have a new virtual and in-person embroidery club, a new serger club and a new three-part virtual Trim the Tree quilting club that starts in August.
