Hello Shannon Fabrics readers! This is my first time sharing on the Shannon Fabrics blog and I'm thrilled to be here! My little corner of the web is at Sewing Mama RaeAnna and I would love to have you stop by some time!
I'm excited to share my fun spin on matching stockings with you today!
Christmas is my favorite time of year and the benefit of being crafty is that you can do soooo much during the holidays! If you don't already have homemade stockings above your mantle then hurry and go put some Shannon Fabrics Cuddle® in your shopping cart now! This is a super quick and easy project. The added jingle bell cuff makes these stockings a little more festive than a plain cuff. AND - there's the perfect amount of room to personalize with embroidery or applique. (I am planning on gifting these stockings so I haven't added any names yet.)
To get started, download the pattern pieces here!
In addition to the pattern, you will need:
1/2 yard Cuddle® fabric (makes 2 stockings) - I used Snow Day by Shannon Fabrics from their Cuddle® Prints Collection
1/4 yard Cuddle fabric (makes 2 stocking cuffs) - I used Cuddle® 3 Snow White
*Note- some of these fabrics may no longer be available, but you can easily susbstitute fabrics of your choice.
All-purpose polyester sewing thread
Stretch needle size 90/14
Jingle bell*
Needle and thread for hand sewing the bell
*Make sure to sew on the bell securely, especially if you have young children or pets.
Let's get started! Use the guidelines on the pattern to piece the paper together and cut along the outline. Pin the pattern to the fabric and cut out your pattern pieces.
Place the stocking pieces right sides together and pin all around the sides and bottom. Sew 1/2" seam allowance removing pins as you get to them. To reduce the extra fluff from cutting the fabric you can serge the seams after you sew. Turn your stocking right side out but do not iron! If you ever feel like your stocking needs pressing use a very cool setting and a press cloth.
Next, let's work on the cuffs. Sew 2 of the pieces with right sides together. Sew only the side seams. Now repeat for the other 2 pieces.
Turn one of the cuff sections right side out and insert it into the other cuff section so the right sides are together. Now pin all around the bottom edges. Sew with a 1/2" seam allowance and clip the point corner before turning right side out.
Let's sew on the jingle bell now. Knot one end of your thread and insert it into the inside of the cuff and begin sewing the jingle ball to the end point of the cuff. When it's secure knot off the end on the inside of the cuff so the knots are not visible from the outside of the stocking.
We need a loop to hang our stocking, so using some scraps from the fabric, sew a strip that is approx. 8-9" by 3". Take the strip and with right sides together sew the long raw edges and then turn right side out.
We need to sandwich the loop in between the stocking and the cuff. To do that, fold the loop so the raw edges are up. Place it against the wrong side of the inside of the stocking. Place the cuff so the right side of the cuff faces the wrong side of the stocking. Pin all around and then sew the cuff and loop to the stocking opening.
Serge your edges if you prefer and then turn the cuff to the outside of the stocking and fold over. You're ready to hang and it only took you about 30 minutes to make a super soft and cute stocking!
