If you or a loved one has a new family member, you know how important it is to have several burp cloths on hand. They're one of the most useful things in the diaper bag — perfect for protecting an outfit, wiping up a mess or discreetly nursing in public.
While it's convenient to pick up a couple at the local store, sewing a burp cloth at home is easier (and quicker) than you'd think. They're easily customizable to match any diaper bag or room decor, and they make great, long-lasting gifts that can be passed down from sibling to sibling.

How to sew a burp cloth
Keep these tips in mind when sewing a burp cloth
- Trace pattern onto 11" x 17" paper to create full pattern.
- Trace around pattern onto wrong side of Cuddle® or Embrace®.
- Pin Cuddle® or Embrace® piece to terry cloth, right sides together. Pin well and stitch along traced line. Leave a 3" opening for turning.
- Clip curves and turn right side out. Use a point turner to smooth seam on the inside.
- Tuck in raw edges at opening and pin. Top stitch opening closed then continue top stitching around entire burp cloth.
