Summer Cooler Caftan

Hi. I'm Laura from SewVeryEasy. Looking for a way to stay cool this summer? How about a Summer Cooler? This Summer Cooler (Caftan) is really a robe, bathrobe, beach and bath cover-up--- all in one. It's made in Embrace® double gauze 100% cotton so it's lightweight, cool and breathable! I designed a classic women’s version and a similar child’s version. You can watch my video tutorial and download the free pattern to learn how to make these yourself.

The Summer Cooler (Caftan) is perfect for over a bathing suit, lounging around, or after the shower.  I made two different styles for women, both with an easy fit, and a cute simple version for a child. I chose Embrace double gauze 100% cotton because it’s cool, breathable and lightweight.

I designed two different women’s styles and a child's size.

For the women's, I used

Solid Embrace Snow

With accents of Solid Embrace Teal

For the second, I used Bouquet Embrace Cobalt

With accents of Solid Embrace Cobalt

For the child’s cover-up, I wanted to use a fun beachy type nautical print.

Aren't these whales cute?!

Whales Embrace Cobalt

and I added accents of Solid Embrace Silver

For this project, I used some of my favorite notions. I chose a size 70/10 sewing machine needle from SCHMETZ, as I find that is the best size for finer fabrics such as double gauze. I also used coordinating Dual Duty XP® 100% polyester thread by Coats & Clark. For more tips on working with Embrace double gauze, click here
