Recommended fabrics and notions for sewing a mermaid tail with Cuddle®

These products can be substituted for whatever you have on hand, but here is what Teresa recommends for her mermaid tail sewing tutorial:

Fabric requirements:

• 1 yd. Luxe Cuddle® Alpine Lagoon (Tail Body)
• 1 yd. Sparkle Cuddle® Glitter Navy/Silver (Tail Fin)
• 1 yd. Sketches Cuddle® Breeze/Navy (Lining) 
• Two 36” x 40” pieces of Quilters Dream polyester batting
• Two 18” x 36” pieces of ByAnnie Soft and Stable 

Notions and supplies:

• 90/14 stretch machine needle —SCHMETZ
• Basting Spray –– ODIF 505
• Craft knife — OLFA
• Fabric clips — Clover
• Felt tip marker or ballpoint pen
• Hand sewing needle — SCHMETZ
• Long, flower head pins — Clover
• Micro-serrated scissors — Karen Kay Buckley, Famore or Kai
• Point turner — Clover
• Polyester thread — Metrosene by Mettler
• Rotary cutter and mat —OLFA
• Stiletto and Pressing Tool — ByAnnie
• Walking foot

Tips for making a mermaid tail with Cuddle® minky fabric

• Use ODIF 505 spray to temporarily adhere the tail to batting before trimming.
• Quilt to hold the batting in position. You can do this with tack stitches or quilt a design such as the clamshell or cross hatch. Fluff seams to hide quilting, if desired.
• Use ByAnnie Soft and Stable to give more shape to the tail fins.
