Making The World A Softer Place™ Holiday Meal Initiative 2020

Making The World A Softer Place™ Holiday Meal Initiative 2020

From wildfires and social unrest, to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, saying 2020 was “difficult” just might be the understatement of the year. When we sat down to plan our yearly holiday meal initiative, we asked ourselves “what can we do to give more”, and thankfully you and our generous customers and partners stepped up to help us make a bigger impact than ever before.

We were humbled by your generosity, and we were able to increase the number of meal bags from the 450 we provided in 2019, to 1000 this year. More food-insecure individuals and families had a lovely meal on the table to gather around and enjoy this holiday season.

Below we’ve compiled some heartwarming images of our employees packing and delivering bags (thank you to Smart & Final in Montebello), and our partner nonprofits handing the bags out to their families.

We encourage you to visit our Making The World A Softer Place™ website (EIN 81-4293222) to learn more about our latest initiatives, and please check out our Trusted Partners page to find ways to get involved and donate.

Los Angeles Donations

Not only did we provide food bags to the same (501c)(3) nonprofits throughout the greater Los Angeles area as we did last year, but we were able to add more and donate more with the help of individual donations from our customers and our overseas suppliers. This year our recipients included the Salvation Army of Glendale, the Venice Family Clinic and the Canoga Park Family Rescue Center, as well as the Salvation Army of Alegria and the Salvation Army of Hope Harbor.

Each nonprofit received prepacked tote bags that included everything needed to make a holiday meal for a family of six, including a $20 gift card to Smart & Final for a turkey or ham.

Salt Lake City Donations

Similar to last year, we also partnered with a few of our generous customers in the greater Salt Lake City area.

With the help of Sew Sweet Minky DesignsNuttall’s Sewing Centers and Fabric Center, over $45,000 was raised and split amongst the Salt Lake City Mission, the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake and the Bountiful Food Pantry to help replenish food stores and provide thousands of hot meals throughout the holiday season.
