Cozy Faux Fur Vest Sewing Pattern & Tutorial
New vests have been just the thing I needed to get out of the post-holiday, everyone-is-sick, never-ending funk that I’ve been in lately. The recently released Oakley and Acorn vests from Love Notions patterns have become a mainstay in my cold-weather wardrobe – and the patterns pair beautifully with virtually any of Shannon Fabrics Cuddle®, Luxe Cuddle® or faux fur fabrics.
When Tami said that she was planning a fur vest pattern last fall, I knew immediately that it would be the perfect match for Shannon Fabrics. Shannon graciously sponsored the pattern test, and our team of testers worked with several different fabrics to get the fit of the various views (there are three included in each pattern!) just right.
*Please note that some of these fabrics might be discontinued, as our amazing team of designers is always updating our fabrics and collections to push the boundaries of fashion, home decor and apparel sewing! Feel free to swap out the suggested fabrics with similar styles and colors.*
For my vest (view A), I paired the embossed beaver fur in Steel with a plum colored poly suit lining - it is warm and cozy and even a bit elegant, too!
Miss P, who is 8, wanted to pick her own fabric so we compromised and I made two vests for her. My choice was the bonded llama Cuddle® Suede in pale pink and ivory, and I made a view A for her with that. She likes it well enough, but her real favorite has been the one she designed herself - it’s a view C with princess seams and inseam pockets in the ivory Luxe Cuddle® Hide , with hot pink bias trim and a bright orange zipper for a pop of color. Paired with jeans or jeggings and boots, the vests have been perfect for chilly school days this winter.
The Acorn vest comes in sizes 2t-16 and includes a free pattern for an 18” doll (like American Girl® or Our Generation®); the doll vest is perfect for using up the scraps from the girls’ vest!
The Oakley vest for ladies comes in sizes XS-XXXL and includes an optional full bust front pattern piece so the work of an FBA is done for you already! The patterns can be bought individually or bundled for a discount, and are downloadable pdf files that can be printed immediately after purchase. They’re well-written and straightforward to sew; the hardest part is deciding which Cuddle® or faux fur to use first!
