Hello! I’m Summer from
Sumo’s Sweet Stuff. You can call me Sumo if you want; my husband nicknamed me that when we were dating and it stuck! I blog a lot about sewing, a little about crafting, and a few other things in between. I’d love for you to come on over and join in the fun!
Awhile back, I made some great
swimsuit cover ups using some Shannon Cuddle™ Fabric. I can’t tell you how many compliments I received on these all summer long. Lucky for me, I had some leftover fabric, so I made a quick little project for my girls using it!
As you can see, I used a mix of the
Chevron Cuddle and the
Paisley Cuddle.
I started off by taking our toddler Rapunzel dolls and using her as a measurement guide. Really, you can make these blankets as big or small as you like. If you have a doll bed, you might want to adjust the measurements to fit as a blanket for that. I didn’t want ours to be very big, so I made it just right to cover her.
I decided to make the blanket about 12” wide and 14” long. I also thought it would be fun to do a spin on one of my most popular tutorials, my
strip baby blanket.
I cut the back of the blanket to be 14” x 12”. Then I cut seven strips to 2.5” x 12”.
Take two strips, and sew them together, with wrong sides facing each other. I generally use about a 1/4” seam allowance on the strips.
Do this for all of your strips.
Put the blanket backing and the strips piece with wrong sides facing together, and sew along all four edges. Again use about 1/4” seam allowance. You may have a bit of extra backing at this point; just trim it to be even with the strip piece.
Take your scissors and fringe all of the raw edges. Be careful not to cut your seams!
Throw the blanket in the wash to eliminate any loose cuddle pieces. It will also help fluff the fringe a bit. Then your blankets are ready to be used!
I have three girls, so naturally I made three blankets.
They have had a great time taking care of their dolls with their new blankets. I love seeing their little mommy instincts come out.
These work for baby dolls as well. The dolls got to take a nap together in the crib!
Even my almost two year old enjoyed doing a little mothering. What is it about babies loving on babies?
Okay, say it with me now: “Awww….”
Thank you so much for having me today. I hope you’ll join me over at
Sumo’s Sweet Stuff for more sewing fun! (And more cute pictures of my girls!)
